Dev II Project Proposal - Nitya Peumans
My project proposal is a music taste-matching service, so that users can find people with similar music tastes to their own, and discover new music through them. A user would input some information about their music taste such as their favorite artist, top 3 genres, and favorite song, as well as a link to their Spotify/Apple Music account. A sample profile might look like: username "jlee_23," top artist Frank Ocean, favorite genres Indie, R&B, and Alternative, favorite song "Ivy" by Frank Ocean, and a linked Spotify profile, which could then be matched with a compatibility score against another student who shares the same top artist and two overlapping genres. Ideally I would like users to be able to log in and view their compatibility with new users/review existing matches. A notification email stating "You've been matched!" could also be a fun way to expand the site.
The intended audience for this project would be reasonably broad, but for the purposes of implementation would be college students and young adults looking to expand their music tastes or connect with others via music. I am particularly interested in targeting college students for this as they would have the opportunity to connect with others on campus through music and find other students who may share similar tastes to attend concerts, study together, or just listen together.
